Photo I Wished I Took

Granted, there are many, but this one is special. Taken by the amazing fashion photographer, Horst, in 1963 for Vogue magazine, featured in an 8 page spread of corseted, girdled, lingeried models, all with their heads covered and draped in scarves. I was jealous when I first saw the photo and I still am, there is just something about this that works, the line of her body extended by the held scarf (???), it is the best of the 8 pages, yummy

All Good Things

Skimming the newspaper, this publicity photo for the new movie All Good Things caught my eye. What was hanging on the dressing table mirror, could it be, might it be, yes it is a scarf. Did the woman just come in, slipped off her scarf or is the scarf only set dressing, it's only role. The movie didn't get a good review, will I see it for scarf potential, definitely. Anyone else ever see a film because of a flicker of a scarf tease?

Tommy Hilfiger Video

Tommy is currently running a video "Feastus Interputus" featuring the perfect Tommy family setting up for an outdoor picnic extravaganza. All decked out in their best Tommy fashions, I was most pleased to see model Heloise Guerlain wearing a red check head scarf tied Windsor style under her chin. Yea for Tommy!! On the web site you can shop for each character's fashions, Heloise wears another headscarf in her photo but
it isn't in the clothing options, Boo, Tommy!!

She was the best thing at this year's Photo Expo. At the Nikon booth she swished and twirled, around and around, undoubtedly bored out of her mind but I couldn't get enough. Part of the magic of silk is the way it floats and this was magical

The Red Ladies

My Dreams are Made of This!

One is spotted on a rooftop, red silk head scarf, dark glasses, black trench coat, more appear on the street, red stiletto heels and bags, disrupting traffic. More appear from black limos, beginning to take to take over the Square moving with military precision until finally they are shoulder to shoulder having commandeered the Square. Who are these women? Where to they come from? Where will they be spotted next? What do they want?

REVELATION!!!

After years of  pondering, what makes that scarf wearing woman stand out special, it came to me that the scarf in the only fashion accessory that requires personal action and attention.

Every other accessory is "ready to go", shoes are slipped on, handbags over the shoulder, sunglasses, ear rings require nothing but being worn as they are.

But a scarf isn't "ready to go, a scarf cannot just be worn because to do so requires action on the wearer's part,  the scarf must be opened, folded, styled, tied, adjusted.

The scarf's lack of structure affords the multiple fashion possibilities. A scarf is the most individualized of all accessories, open to the wearer's creativity and style and the woman willing to explore the scarf with confidence and grace stands out, powerful, not to be intimidated by 36" of silk and here we recognize her strength.
